Widophan Foundation International, a nonprofit humanitarian organization in Abuja that addresses the myriad of challenges facing the girl child, has joined stakeholders around the world to observe October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child.

Pastor Mrs. Berakah R. Yoroms, CEO and Director General of Widophan Foundation International said that the girl child remains the hope and future of the society, further adding that she should be properly educated and guided to face present and future challenges.

“The time has come for all of us to begin to show concern and put smiles on the faces of girls in our society because they remain vulnerable around the world.”, she said

Pastor Yoroms further remarked that her foundation is single-minded about creating a sustainable environment that allows the girl child to thrive in Nigeria and around the world.

According to her, “The girl child has become vulnerable to abuse, rejection, and abandonment. We intend to inspire the girl child through our sensitization efforts and our collaborative work with parliaments around the world to improve the girl child’s living conditions.”

Inaugurated on July 27 this year, Widophan Foundation International is focused on its humanitarian peace mission and vision of creating a sustainable environment for the girl child in Nigeria and elsewhere.

The organization’s programs are in line with the United Nations’ objective of promoting the rights and privileges of girls, raising awareness about gender imbalances, and other critical issues facing the girl child in the society.

The International Day of the Girl Child was first observed in 2012 in the aftermath of the December 19, 2011 declaration by the General Assembly of the United Nations.
