The Dyslexia Foundation Nigeria has announced that it is marking the Dyslexia Awareness Month, an annual event that holds the month of October.
The 2025 Dyslexia Awareness Month is tagged, “Raising the Volume: Amplifying Awareness and Understanding of Dyslexia,” and is aimed at promoting greater awareness, understanding, and inclusion of dyslexia across Nigeria.
“Dyslexia affects millions worldwide, yet remains widely misunderstood, with one in five children in schools and 50% of juveniles in correctional facilities showing signs and symptoms”, the, Executive Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, Mr. Ben Arikpo, said
Mr. Arikpo said the campaign seeks to:
– Raise awareness about dyslexia as a common learning difference, not a disability or disease
– Empower educators, teachers, and parents through workshops and training programs focused on inclusive learning strategies
– Provide free screeners and assessments to identify learning differences in public and selected private schools
– Advocate for policy reforms supporting inclusive education and intervention programs
According to Mr. Arikpo,”Raising the Volume is more than a campaign — it’s a call to action. We are amplifying the voices of learners, parents, and educators to ensure dyslexia is no longer ignored or misunderstood.”
The Dyslexia Foundation invites media houses, TV stations, educators, policymakers, and the public to join this campaign and help “raise the volume” for dyslexia awareness in Nigeria.
