It was a celebration of vibrant culture, colours, and diversity the weekend of March 28, 2026, when students, educators, diplomats, and lovers of the French language and culture rendezvous at the Lycée International Marcel Pagnol, Abuja.

The event themed “Francophonie 2026: Foire Gastronomique et Culturelle”, was organized in collaboration with the Group of Francophone Ambassadors, whose member countries contributed to showcasing the diversity and richness of the Francophone world.

The programme which began in the morning featured a colorful Francophonie parade featuring participants dressed in traditional attire representing different Francophone countries, spelling bee competition which celebrated linguistic excellence among students, award ceremony, school presentations where students from various institutions demonstrated their talents and knowledge in French through drama, speeches, and cultural displays.

Representatives of Francophone embassies remarks were delivered by ives, emphasizing the importance of the French language as a tool for unity and global collaboration.

Other activities featured include quiz and games, exhibition, and music performances.

These activities provided entertainment while also deepening participants’ understanding of Francophone cultures.

A lecturer in Institut Franćaise, Monsieur Samuel Ojediran, explained that the event, is an annual celebration of the Journée de la Francophonie.

According to him, the event served as a platform to promote cultural exchange, linguistic appreciation, and international cooperation.

A student in Institut Franćaise, Whitney Aneke, expressed delight at the experience as she networked and enjoyed the delicacies of different cultures at the event.

The event fostered connections among participants and reinforced the importance of the French language in a multicultural world.
